SONG THREE

Synopsis: A small group of 23-year-olds attempt to make it in their respective art careers all the while dealing with love, loss, growing up, and reality.

It all began in January of 2022. I knew I wanted to write a screenplay about being lost in your early 20s and not really knowing the next step in life. The first versions of this were written entirely on notebook cards to allow me to move them around to figure out which scenes should go where. I spent about six months writing notes to flesh out as much as possible to really hammer in the ideas I wanted to convey.

As preproduction progressed, the story changed from an egotistical musician who learns his lesson about reality to instead a grounded relatable story about a young man trying to make it as a guitarist while also dealing with resurfaced trauma. I wanted the story to feel real and resonate with especially young people. Many heavy topics are tackled in this script including depression, drugs, trauma, love, societal pressures, and growing up.

When it came time to transfer my notes to a screenplay format, I ended up writing the whole first draft in one sitting. It took 25 hours of non-stop writing and revising but eventually by about 10am on the morning of June 5th 2022, the first draft of SONG THREE was completed.

What then followed were more revisions over the next couple of weeks. The next month, I locked in my cast for the feature and by the very beginning of August, production on SONG THREE began. After about 6 weeks of shooting, we wrapped in September 2022. The film is currently in the final stages of post-production with the hope of a 2025 release date.
